Mek'ele

Ok. So, I missed a few days being out with a fever and all. Now that I'm up and around, here's a pic from the balcony of my room in Mek'ele Ethiopia.

Hot Pursuit

Off to Ethiopia ~ with one stop to check out the latest in police wheels at the airport.

Leaved

Leaved?

Is that a word? That was the thought skipping about my little brain when I stepped out on the porch and found the chair covered in leaves. It's been leaved.

Can you rake a chair?

Emily Sue

On her last year as a High School student.

We shot a couple hundred photos this afternoon. A big thanks to her good friend Ally and mom too - both provided great support and good ideas to build on.

Just wish I could pick a single favorite...

The top color photo shot with 7D and 24-105 at 65mm, f4, 1/200th, iso 200.
The next color photo shot with a 40D & 70-200 at 105mm, f8, 1/250th, iso 200, with a little fill from a 580EX bare.

S as in Snake

I don't think this turned out like I saw it. There I said it. What I saw, and jumped out to snap without looking at all the possibilities, and then right back in the car because it's cold out, was a line of streetlights winding their way up the twisty street.

I'm thinking I need to go back and look again with longer glass to pull it all in...

I Wanna Help!

We had a "packing party" for an upcoming trip to Ethiopia. There were clothes, shoes, medicines, diapers, cold remedies, and painting tools - all being readied for delivery to an orphanage and an AIDs clinic.

In the middle of too many people in a small space were these two kids who wanted to help with every box & suitcase.

There's not much you can't do with a little enthusiasm...

On The Ball

We showed up at the Northwest Soccer Park today to watch our friend play 'footebol'. He's the leftmost red shirt playing for Ferndale. A minute before this shot was taken, he scored a goal from just about mid-field.

This kid can play...

Early Adopters

There are always those that elect to go first. The ones that embrace a new idea or paradigm before the rest of us even know the direction is there.

These leaves are so far ahead of the pack that they're turning brown and dry even before jumping off the branch...

Rot

When we say that it means 'rotten', 'going to pot', and 'decay'.

Say it in another language and it's the color...

Hang Out

Before the sidewalks are rolled up, the daytime crowd gives way to the night shift.

Here's the local evening group hanging out on the corner...

On the drive to the office this morning, I passed this misty hillside and just had to stop...

Alice

Another senior with a bright future.

I couldn't decide which was my favorite...

Emerald

Down in the Emerald City today to look at candy camera stores for a new camera bag.

No luck in the bag department, apparently Gucci doesn't 'do' camera bags. Sigh.

However, I did enjoy a quick jaunt onto the pathway surrounding Green Lake...

New Retro

I spotted this cool BMW R100S parked downtown and just HAD to snap a pic of it.

As I hopped out of the car, the owner walked up and I got to chat with him for a moment before he rumbled off down the road.

He bought the bike from someone who'd left it sitting out in the weather for the last few years. It'd deteriorated pretty badly, so the new owner has been putting a lot of time and effort into restoring it.

I got to ride one of these back around 1978. I can still feel it...

Music Man

Time for more senior portraits.

We're on the second go-round for this character. We ran out of time on the last outing and he wanted some with his guitar. So, with the fall in full bloom we headed out today to see what we could do with it...

Shot with 40D & 85 1.8 at f4, 1/250th, iso 100, backlit by the sun playing peek-a-boo in the clouds, and a single 430EX frontlight bare because a softbox makes it's own slapstick comedy when the wind is blowing like it did today.

On the Shady Side of Life

While racing about looking for some color tonight before sundown (just barely too) and I stumbled upon this old Toyota serving it's last days as an ivy support.

I'm thinkin' it'd make a good decoration for halloween. "Look out! Here comes that vine again!"
Or something like that...

Eeny, Meeny, Miny, iMoe

All this obsolescence makes me wonder what I have today that will be on the scrap heap tomorrow.

Uh. All of it.
Choose your toys carefully and use them to their full potential...

Travellin' Man

The theme this weekend is 'Travel', thanks Tim. One of the fortunes of my life has been the opportunity to travel to other parts of the world.

This week wasn't one of those opportunities.

So, I faked it and took out the family mini-van for a late night hot-rod jaunt down the freeway.

Shot with a 40D & 12-24 at 21mm, f4, 1/6th sec, iso 800. Camera on a tripod between the two middle seats and a single 430EX hanging off the roof rack on a Manfrotto magic arm gridded and pointing at the right outside rear view mirror so there'd be a little light on the drivers face.

Tanner, a Thinker

Another young man in need of a senior photo.

I think we're turning out a bumper crop of kids that'll be out doing great things in the world.

Fish Bowl

Walking the halls of the hospital this afternoon I was drawn like a moth to the really cool mirrors mounted at every intersection.

I want one for my house...

Oh, and Sherryl's procedure went well. She'll be home soon.

Watch Your

We went to the bookstore tonight. Next door (with one of those openings in the wall between businesses) is the paper/stationary/trinket/fudge store. On their floor was this sign warning you to, uh, step.

I didn't see any other words like 'to the right', 'partner', or 'dosey doe'.

Faith in the Abstract

It's fall and we're back to having Wednesday night 'Refuge' church services.

This one had some challenging lighting (meaning there wasn't much of it) and no flash allowed - naturally.

Spirited

Anna is putting her horse up for sale. So, I took some photos for her to put on the 'Horse For Sale' websites.

What a beautiful animal, I'm sure she'll be sad to see her go...

Just Right

One of these is too big.

One of these is too small.

I had a ditch to fill in today and I tried them all. Boy am I glad I got an education. I sure don't want to operate one of these for a living...

Blowing

We had a good amount of wind today. When I awoke this morning and heard the breeze I thought: "perfect!" and set about to try and capture it.

You see the theme this weekend is 'crisp' and I thought a good fall blow might fit the theme pretty well as in: 'crisp fall day'.

So, out to the front yard and see if I can capture the wind in the trees...

After dropping our daughter and 3 of her friends at the Colossus Theater, my sweetie & I went walking along the Frasier River today at Kanaka Creek Park.

What a gorgeous day it was...

Cat Track

Visited a friend's home tonight and on the way in I noticed what appeared to be a well-worn trail of footprints in the front lawn. It seems the cat is careful to step in the same spots everytime he traverses the yard...

Shot with G7, f8, 1 second, iso 200, handheld on the porch railing.

P.S. Life has been a little crazy for the past week. This is the first time I've shot a photo in days.
